Lead Pastor-South County

Basic Job Description
A Lead Pastor for The Journey will architect and execute strategic activities for their assigned Journey church location in congruence with the overall Journey strategy. This includes leading, coaching, shepherding staff and key volunteers, executing plans to evangelistically expand the size of the church and relationally connect to the congregation as well as the local community. A Lead Pastor must provide exceptional pastoral care for the congregation including helping walk members through times of crisis and restoration.
In addition, a Lead Pastor will be an upfront presence to their local church, regularly hosting weekend services and leading other key church initiatives. A Lead Pastor will also engage in the process to become an Elder of The Journey. The effective Lead Pastor will achieve the following during the first 24 months of work:

Church Directional Leadership

  • Oversee South County church operations including facilities, finances, and human resources
  • Create consistent pastoral care for the congregation
  • Together with staff and elders develop a Congregational Care Plan
  • Strategic planning for the overall development of The Journey South County to become a culture of growing disciples making disciples
  • Direct planning for corporate worship that spiritually forms and missionally engages congregation
  • Oversee and attend “all South County Church” Newcomer lunches/dinners
  • Preach during assigned weekend services (12-18 times per year)
  • Provide occasional teaching outside weekend services
  • Lead new Member process/classes for The Journey-South County

Strategic Planning

  • Provide problem solving and proactive leadership to staff, elders and key leaders
  • Collaborate with Central Operations support teams to ensure that the logistical needs of the local church are met (Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, Production, Communication)
  • Develop annual ministry plan for The Journey-South County setting clear, concise and measurable objectives for their church location and staff
  • Assist church staff in developing their annual ministry plans
  • Regularly engage leadership stakeholders in strategic thinking
  • Facilitate Elder/Service Pastor process at The Journey-South County
  • Participate in Lead Pastor community and weekly meetings with Lead Pastor of The Journey
  • Lead/participate in “All Staff” meetings
  • Contribute to Journey Global initiatives as needed

Church Staff Shepherding and Leadership Development

  • Lead individual monthly meetings with each church staff member at The Journey-South County
  • Oversee staff development and performance objectives for each local staff member, providing coaching and performance feedback as needed
  • Set clear objectives and job descriptions when necessary for each staff and key lay leaders
  • Plan and lead regular local church staff meetings

Church Elder/Service Pastor Leadership

  • Lead monthly individual and group meeting with each church elder at The Journey-South County
  • Create roles and responsibilities/ministry assignments for each elder
  • Model behavior that affirms vision and core values
  • Plan and lead Membership meetings each trimester

Church Expansion

  • Responsible to develop and grow missional communities at The Journey-South County
  • Evangelistically strategize how to expand and reach and serve more people in the local community
  • Extend the reach of the local church through strategic local partnerships

Status: Full-time, Exempt
Schedule/Hours: 50-55 hours/week
