Waterdeep, consisting of husband and wife duo Don and Lori Chaffer and a rotating band of talented musicians, has written some of the most beautiful and honest music I have heard in the past 15 years, period.
More than songwriters or musicians, the Chaffers are story tellers (reinforced by Don’s recent writing of a musical that has been playing Off-Broadway in NY for the past year). Whether about love, God, the death of a parent, or having a drink with Jesus, their songs dig down into the complexity and tension of the human experience in a way that is accessible, beautiful and just plain enjoyable.
