Meet Our Staff

Scott Hickox

Lead Pastor

Why are you at The Journey?
After 15 years in Kansas City, God called us away from our home and our comfort to come to The Journey in St. Louis. We cannot even fully explain it, but are absolutely convinced this is where He wants us to be. We love The Journey's heart to preach the gospel, both to those who don't yet know Jesus, as well as those who have known him for years.

What do you love about St. Louis?
We love the diversity of neighborhoods and communities here; each with their distinct personalities, restaurants, and shops. Not to mention the parks, the zoo, and the Cardinals.

Journey Kids Adminstrator

Worship Leader

Why are you at The Journey?
The ministry at The Journey has helped shape my theology and my understanding of Jesus and has pushed me deeper into a relationship with Him. When I saw how all aspects of ministry here are driven by bringing glory to God, being a committed disciple of Christ and making disciples, I knew that was something I wanted to be a part of!

What do you love about St. Louis?
I love the good food you can get all around town. I love the sports teams. I love that there is lots to do outside. I love that it is a great place to raise a family.

Cory Ball

Pastor of Student Ministries

Why are you at The Journey?
I am at The Journey because God orchestrated every detail to get me here. I love The Journey because we are Gospel-centric. The Journey is a special place because we are more concerned about your life in relation to the truth, power and work of Jesus Christ than you being a perfect person who never fails or makes mistakes.

What do you love about St. Louis?
St. Louis is amazing. There is ALWAYS something to do (most of which is free.) Museums, the zoo, all the beautiful parks. There is always something to do here. Also, my wife and I love the diversity, from the people, different cultures, and the amazing restaurants. St. Louis is a wonderful city.

Why are you at The Journey?
My husband and I first encountered The Journey in our hometown of Edwardsville, Illinois. Upon relocating to St. Louis, we continued to be drawn to The Journey's effective blend of our previous church experiences and clear focus on proclaiming the gospel. Through the teachings of the church and the relationships I have gained as part of it, my faith has been challenged and grown in ways I didn’t even know were possible. I’m thrilled to now take on a new role in helping facilitate the same opportunity for others.

What do you love about St. Louis?
I love the many places in St. Louis that offer opportunities to experience the arts….Powell Hall and The Fox just to name a few. I love all of the fun attractions we visit with our daughter…City Museum & the Zoo are at the top of the list! I love all of the great restaurants where we eat fantastic food and can fellowship with friends….Bailey’s Range and Pi are two of my favorites! And I love that St. Louis is only 30 minutes from my hometown in Illinois.

Pastor or Spiritual Formation

Why are you at The Journey?
Before coming on staff, my wife and I came to The Journey because we believed in the mission of the church and loved the gospel-centered, practical teaching of Pastor Darrin. When I had the chance to go be a part of what God was doing through The Journey as a staff member, then pastor, it was a no brainer. The Journey is home for us, and we are excited to be a part of what God is doing in St. Louis, and more specifically West County.

What do you love about St. Louis?
Having a young family, one of my favorite things about St. Louis is all of the family friendly things there are to do... and most of them are free! While Forest Park is full of great things, there are also lots of other great parks around us in St. Louis County that we love to frequent as a family. I think the people are great, the food is solid, and there are a lot of arts/entertainment options. As a sports guy, I am a fan of all the sports teams.. but of course the Cardinals are my favorite!

Josh Jaworowski

Community Groups Coordinator

Why are you at The Journey?
My wife and I have always lived in West County, so we have a heart for the Gospel to be shared and lived out in our community. God has used the The Journey to grow us spiritually by revising our view of mission and challenging us to be in authentic community.

What do you love about St. Louis?
Since we have always lived in St. Louis, it is the only place we know as home. The Hill, Ted Drewes, October Baseball, Family, The Zoo, and The Muny are some of things we love about St. Louis.

Why are you at The Journey?
I am excited to be part of The Journey, because it is a place where I am growing with fellow sinners who are seeking together to offer our lives to a most-high God. Through my involvement in this church, God has been teaching me so much about service and mission-mindedness! I'm thankful for how He uses this church in St. Louis.

What do you love about St. Louis?
I've had the pleasure of growing up in the St. Louis area. I love that the heart of the city is not short of a rich history and cultural diversity, which flows out into the suburbs. I also can't deny that I love the free events, museums, and activities which bring all kinds of people together!

Molly Heckenberg

Journey Kids Director

Why are you at The Journey?
God has orchestrated a beautiful series of events that has taken me from being an elementary classroom teacher, to a stay-at-home mom volunteering in Journey Kids, to a staff member. It is an incredible gift and privilege to be able to share the gospel with elementary kids!

What do you love about St. Louis?
I grew up in St. Louis, and it always amazes me how interconnected people are. It has happened to me over and over where I get to know someone, only to later find out that we are somehow connected through either similar experiences here or through mutual friends.

Spencer Thomas

Spiritual Formation Coordinator

Why are you at The Journey?

God is so good. When Pastor Scott asked me to intern at The Journey, I didn’t know that God was not only providing me a job, but a family in St. Louis during my time at Covenant Seminary. I have stayed at The Journey because this is a church that honors the Lord. The Journey is a church that is not afraid to take the hard truths of scripture and live them out. What a blessing it has been to be a part of a church that is diligently seeking to model Christ’s love not only to one another, but the entire St. Louis area and beyond.

What do you love about St. Louis?

Hailing from Illinois, I love the fact that this city gets baseball right — Go Cards! My wife and I also love how for being so big, St. Louis has a small town feel. When you add in the St. Louis Zoo, Nick’s Pub, The Loop, and Jenny’s Ice Cream, you just can’t go wrong.
