More About this Series

The gospel goes from the innermost parts of our heart to the outermost parts of the world.

Over this past year, we have explored the power by which the early church carried out God’s mission (Multiply) and the places in which the Spirit is at work through us (Good News). Now, in Jonah, we dive deeper into the heart issues that prevent us from participating in God’s mission.

In Jonah, we discover a religious man whose deep-seated anger is unsurfaced when God sends him to preach a message of repentance to a pagan people that he despises. As Jonah’s unrepentant heart remains far from the Lord, it is the pagans who demonstrate true repentance. Even though Jonah’s mission to the Assyrians is fulfilled in chapter 3, God’s mission to Jonah remains: even as God relents from bringing disaster upon Nineveh (3:10), God is unrelenting in his pursuit of Jonah’s heart.

And so, for this series, we can reverse the theme of our earlier series': God may send us to the outermost parts of the world to reach the innermost parts of our heart with the gospel.
